Only
by the Spirit of the Lord
Nothing
worthwhile to the kingdom is accomplished by might or power.
Zechariah
4:1 through 6
1And
the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened
out of his sleep, 2And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I
have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the
top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps,
which are upon the top thereof: 3And two olive trees by it,
one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side
thereof. 4So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me,
saying, What are these, my lord? 5Then the angel that talked
with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said,
No, my lord. 6Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is
the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by
my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
1.
The flesh is often willing, but should never be relied upon because it is
weak.
A.
The
church is the golden lamp stand that is commissioned by the Lord to hold up the
light of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the dark world.
B.
The two
olive branches are seen on each side of the candlestick from which oil flowed
into the bowl without ceasing.
C.
This
represents the abundance of God’s grace given through the work of the Holy
Spirit for the enlightening making holy the members of the body of Christ which
cannot be procured or prevented by any human power.
D.
Christ
will build His church without any labor or art of man.
He uses us as instruments as we submit ourselves to Him and deny our own
abilities. Yet it is His labor in
us.
E.
Christ is
our Zerubbabel; mountains of
difficulty were in the way of His undertaking, but nothing is too hard of Him.
F.
What
comes from the grace of God, may, in faith, be committed to the grace of God,
for He will not forsake the work of His hands
Isaiah
41:17 through Isaiah 41:20
17When
the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue
faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not
forsake them. 18I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in
the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the
dry land springs of water. 19I will plant in the wilderness the
cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the
desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: 20That
they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of
the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
Zechariah 4:7 through 10 Jesus
– our Zerubbabel
7Who
art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a
plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying,
Grace, grace unto it. 8Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me,
saying, 9The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this
house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of
hosts hath sent me unto you. 10For who hath despised the day of small
things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of
Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which
run to and fro through the whole earth.
2.
The Work of the Spirit and Power to function comes from the finished work
on the cross.
1
Corinthians 1:17 through 1 Corinthians 1:25
17For
Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of
words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18For
the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which
are saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, I will destroy
the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the
prudent. 20Where is the wise? where is the scribe?
where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom
of this world? 21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by
wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them
that believe. 22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek
after wisdom: 23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a
stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24But unto them
which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom
of God. 25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the
weakness of God is stronger than men.
1
Corinthians 3:18 through 23
18Let
no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world,
let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19For the wisdom of this
world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their
own craftiness. 20And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the
wise, that they are vain.
21Therefore
let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; 22Whether Paul, or
Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or
things to come; all are yours; 23And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is
God’s.
3.
All other ground is sinking sand.
Ø
My hope
is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust
the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name.
On
Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground
is sinking sand.
Ø
His oath,
His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood; When all around my
soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.
Ø
When He
shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found, Dressed in His
righteousness alone, faultless to stand before His throne.
